ABINGTON RAIDERS YOUTH FOOTBALL AND CHEER

Abington Raiders Youth Football and Cheer is a proud member of the BuxMont Pop Warner Football and Cheer Association. Pop Warner is a nonprofit organization that provides youth football and cheer & dance programs for participants in 42 states and several countries around the world. On fields across America, Pop Warner is continually making our game safer and better, while retaining what makes the sport of football so great for young people. And we’re doing the same for our young athletes in football and cheer starting with making safety a top priority. Pop Warner has instituted the nation's most advanced safety measures, including limiting contact to 25% of practice time, eliminating kickoffs and the three-point stance for our youngest divisions, banning full-speed, head-on tackling and blocking drills and mandating that any player who suffers a suspected head injury receive medical clearance from a medical professional trained in concussion evaluation and management before returning to play. In addition, all of our coaches are given the tools they need to teach the game the right way. One tool to make this possible is the USA Football’s Heads Up Football training which is mandatory for all Pop Warner coaches. Football offer so much to our youth, from a fun, physically active lifestyle and a sense of teamwork to valuable life lessons like perseverance and sacrifice. To make it possible for them to enjoy those experiences we will never stop working to make them safer.

Abington Raiders Football adheres to the rules of Pop Warner Little Scholars. One of the foundation rules requires minimum plays for each player to ensure that each child has a chance to learn the game of football and can create great experiences and memories for themselves. We offer multiple levels/divisions of football, that are age based, while maintaining our goal to always place our players on the team best suited for their safety and success. If you are not sure which division is best for your child do not worry – adjustments will be made, and all players will be placed in the proper division to start the season.

Players begin official practicing on August 1 in preparation for their season openers, usually held during the last week in August or first week in September. A participant can be considered eligible for the season when he/she has met the four basic criteria for participation: A candidate must provide proof of age, parental consent, a medical examination, and academic fitness.

Each football team will plays a 10 game schedule, which includes playoffs and championship games for those who qualify. During the month of October, teams who qualify for post season play will prepare for league playoffs and possible championship, which is usually scheduled the last weekend in October. Once a BuxMont division champion has been declared, the winning  team has earned the right to participate in Eastern Regional Championships. Those teams that win at the regional championships are invited to the Pop Warner Super Bowl in Orlando to compete for a national championship.
